Obsidian Stone Glossary

Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass formed from rapidly cooled lava. It is valued in jewelry design for its deep black color, high luster, and smooth texture. Dakota Stones offers obsidian beads that are uniform in shape and polish, making them suitable for both modern and traditional designs. Obsidian is relatively lightweight compared to other gemstones, allowing for comfortable wear in larger pieces. Its vitreous surface can be carved or faceted, but it is prone to chipping due to its glassy structure.
