Global Turquoise
A home to turquoise beyond the familiar mines of North America. From the Sinai, where ancient miners worked some of the oldest turquoise diggings on earth, to the Peruvian Andes, where the same vivid blue-greens rise out of old copper country, these are the world's turquoise: many lands, one unmistakable color.

Frequently asked questions
-
What is global turquoise?
Turquoise from sources outside North America and China's Hubei province. This collection carries Egyptian turquoise from the Sinai Peninsula, Persian turquoise, Peruvian turquoise (a chrysocolla — see below), and Chilean turquoise. Sleeping Beauty, Kingman, and other North American material is in our main turquoise collection; Hubei turquoise has its own. -
Is Peruvian turquoise real turquoise?
No. The material sold as Peruvian turquoise is chrysocolla, a hydrated copper silicate that forms in the same copper deposits and carries a similar blue-green color. The name is a trade name, and we note it in each product title. Our Peruvian strands are natural — no dye, no resin. Bead-grade chrysocolla is the harder, silica-bound form of the mineral. -
Where does Egyptian turquoise come from?
The Sinai Peninsula, where turquoise was mined for ancient Egypt — among the oldest turquoise workings known. It is genuine turquoise: hydrated copper-aluminum phosphate, the same mineral as American and Chinese material. We stock it as side-drill nuggets, graduated free-form ovals, and barrels, mostly in light to sky blue. -
What is Persian turquoise?
The material the older trade literature treats as the benchmark for turquoise — even sky-blue color, sometimes with fine golden-brown limonite matrix. Our Persian strands are cut as irregular heishi, rectangles, tubes, and nuggets, so each bead is a slightly different shape. -
How should I care for these beads?
Turquoise is soft (Mohs 5–6) and porous. Keep it away from perfume, lotion, and household cleaners; no ultrasonic or steam; wipe with a soft damp cloth. Remove before swimming or the gym. Chrysocolla takes the same care. Most bead-grade turquoise is stabilized — resin-hardened for drilling — and treatment is disclosed where known; our Peruvian chrysocolla is natural.
