Apatite has been labeled the “deceitful stone” due to its close resemblance to other much more valuable gems. In rare and highly sought after specimens, Apatite can exhibit chatoyancy — an uncommon optical phenomenon in some stones that resembles the light reflection of a cat’s eye.
