Rose Quartz Beads
Rose quartz beads are the soft pink that gets reached for first. The stone glows rather than sparkles — a pale, cloudy blush that stays calm on its own and warms whatever sits beside it, so it works as the quiet ground under amethyst, smoky quartz, or hematite as easily as it carries a strand alone. Smooth rounds keep that hush; a faceted cut lifts it a little. Blue rose quartz is the same soft body in a cool blue.
Rose quartz almost never grows as a crystal. It comes out of the ground in cloudy, massive blocks, which is why it has always belonged to carvers and lapidaries more than to gem cutters — worked into beads, cabochons, and small figures wherever it was found. In 1930s Paris, Suzanne Belperron made some of the most original jewelry of the century out of carved rose quartz, smoky quartz, and chalcedony, stones the trade filed under semi-precious, and her cuffs and rings still look modern today.
Rose quartz has long carried the name Stone of Love. It is traditionally tied to the heart chakra and associated with unconditional love, compassion, and emotional healing — said to encourage self-love, make room for forgiveness, and settle the heart toward balance and peace. It is the stone most often chosen when a piece is meant to speak of love, comfort, or the bonds of family and friendship.

About this stone
Frequently asked questions
-
Is rose quartz dyed?
Both exist. Natural rose quartz is a pale, slightly hazy pink that varies a little from bead to bead; deep, evenly saturated pink is usually dyed quartz, with the color sitting in the stone's fractures. Dyed strands are labelled where known. -
Why does my rose quartz look cloudy or milky?
That is how natural rose quartz looks. The pink color in rose quartz comes from microscopic fibrous inclusions distributed through the stone, and those same inclusions scatter light to produce the characteristic translucent-to-milky cloudiness. Gem-clear deeply saturated pink quartz is almost always dye-enhanced clear quartz, not naturally clearer rose quartz. The soft hazy quality is intrinsic to the variety, not a flaw. -
Where does rose quartz come from?
Brazil — principally the state of Minas Gerais — is the dominant commercial source for bead-grade rose quartz. Madagascar is the other major source; Madagascan material can run slightly deeper in color than the Brazilian. Smaller commercial production comes from India, South Africa, and the United States. -
Does rose quartz fade in sunlight?
Yes, slowly. The color centers responsible for the natural pink can lighten with prolonged direct sunlight exposure. Dye-treated rose-pink quartz can also fade. This is not an issue for ordinary wear, but stored or displayed pieces in extended direct sunlight will lose color over time. Keep finished pieces out of sustained UV when not being worn. -
What's the difference between rose quartz, cherry quartz, and strawberry quartz?
Rose quartz is the natural pale pink variety of quartz, colored by microscopic fibrous inclusions. "Cherry quartz" is typically dyed glass or dyed quartz, not a natural variety — the saturated cherry-red color is a dye signal. "Strawberry quartz" is quartz with hematite or iron-oxide inclusions; natural strawberry quartz exists (Brazilian, Russian, Mexican sources) but a large share of bead-trade "strawberry quartz" is also dye-enhanced. When cross-shopping these three, the natural / dyed distinction is the most important spec to confirm.
