• What color is prehnite?

  Prehnite is soft yellow-green to apple-green, with a faint pearlescent or chatoyant glow when polished. The color ranges across the catalog — some strands lean cool and minty, others lean warm and lemon-tinged. Clarity also varies: fine material is translucent enough to see light pass through a faceted bead; commercial-grade material is opaque and milky-green. The color is intrinsic to the rough — prehnite is not dyed.
• Is prehnite dyed?

  No. Every prehnite strand in Dakota's catalog is sold natural. The soft yellow-green to apple-green color is intrinsic to the rough, and dyeing is uncommon for prehnite because the natural color register is already what designers want. Stabilization is also not standard for the stone. If a "prehnite" strand shows saturation outside the natural soft-green register — deep emerald, electric lime, blue-green — that's a sign to ask whether the material is actually prehnite or something else dyed to imitate it.
• What's the difference between prehnite and chrysoprase or peridot?

  All three are green, but they read differently. Prehnite is soft yellow-green to apple-green with a pearlescent glow; clarity ranges from translucent to opaque milky-green; Mohs 6–6.5. Chrysoprase is a more saturated apple-green chalcedony, opaque and uniformly colored, Mohs 6.5–7. Peridot is a brighter lime-to-olive green, transparent and often facet-cut, Mohs 6.5–7. Designers pick by color register: prehnite for soft luminous green, chrysoprase for saturated apple, peridot for bright lime.
• Where does prehnite come from?

  Prehnite is sourced from several deposits worldwide. Mali produces some of the finest translucent material; Australia, South Africa (the original described locality), India, and China are additional commercial sources. The visual character is consistent across sources; clarity and saturation are the variables. Origin disclosure should be disclosed where it's known; ask if it isn't specified.
• How durable is prehnite for daily wear?

  Mohs 6–6.5 — durable for necklaces, earrings, and bracelets with standard care. Prehnite is on the softer end of mid-range, so for high-contact applications like rings it will show wear faster than harder stones (quartz-family stones at Mohs 7, for example). Avoid ultrasonic cleaning, which can aggravate internal fractures; clean with a soft cloth and mild soap.
