• How long does the plating last on plated gemstone beads?

  Plated finishes are surface coatings, typically deposited by electroplating or PVD (physical vapor deposition). Lifespan depends on wear conditions: indoor occasional-wear pieces can hold their finish for years; daily-wear pieces exposed to skin oils, lotion, perfume, and abrasion may show wear within 6–24 months. Plated finishes are best for statement pieces and accent beads rather than high-friction surfaces like bracelet contact points.
• What's the difference between plated and naturally metallic stones?

  Plated beads have a metal coating over a non-metallic stone base — the underlying material is typically Hematite, Quartz, or Beryl, and the metallic appearance comes from the coating. Naturally metallic minerals (Hematite, Pyrite, Magnetite) have intrinsic metallic luster from their own crystal structure — the color and shine are the stone itself. Naturally metallic stones do not wear or fade in the same way plating does.
• Is pyrite the same as fool's gold and is it valuable?
