• Where does kambaba jasper come from?

  Kambaba jasper is sourced principally from the Bongolava region of Madagascar. Some older trade literature also cites South Africa as a source. The current commercial supply is overwhelmingly Madagascan. Origin should appear on the product page — ask before buying if it isn't specified.
• Is kambaba jasper a fossil?

  The classification is debated. Older trade and lapidary literature describes kambaba as a fossilized stromatolite — ancient layered cyanobacteria colonies — with the black orbicular spots interpreted as fossilized algae. More recent mineralogical analysis (EPI Institute, Germany) classifies the material as a spherulitic rhyolite, a volcanic rock in which the orbicular spots formed through radial crystallization rather than biological deposition. Both framings circulate in the bead trade. The visual character, polish behavior, and working hardness — what designers actually care about — are the same either way.
• Is kambaba jasper dyed?

  Most kambaba jasper is sold natural. The deep green base and black orbicular spots are intrinsic to the rough. Dyed kambaba does exist and should be disclosed per strand on the product page. Ask before buying if treatment isn't specified.
• How durable is kambaba jasper for daily wear?

  Mohs ~6–7. Durable for any standard jewelry application including rings, bracelets, and necklaces. Standard care: wipe with a soft cloth and mild soap. Avoid ultrasonics on any dyed strands.
