Amazonite Beads
Amazonite beads are a soft blue-green feldspar marbled with white, the veining natural to the stone. Russian amazonite is the deepest teal, Brazilian amazonite lighter and greener, Peruvian amazonite a pale green-blue, and black gold amazonite runs black tourmaline and pyrite through the blue-green. Faceted rounds sharpen the color, matte rounds soften it, and chips, coins, heishi, nuggets and pendants fill out the range. Beside carnelian, moonstone or labradorite, and with brass or gold, amazonite sits as a cool neutral in a piece.

The marbled blue-green of amazonite
Amazonite is a blue-green microcline feldspar. The color comes from trace lead and water held in the crystal, and it runs from pale robin's-egg blue to a saturated teal-green, nearly always threaded with white albite. The white is part of the stone, not a fill, and it is the surest sign of the real thing: dyed howlite, magnesite and calcite sold as amazonite show a flat, even color, with dye pooled at the drill holes and in the veins. Amazonite itself is typically untreated.
Blue to green amazonite — Russian, Brazilian and black gold
Amazonite grades on the depth and evenness of the blue-green. Russian amazonite sits at the deep, blue end of the range; Brazilian amazonite is lighter and greener with bolder white veining; Peruvian amazonite is the palest. Strands are graded A to AAA on how even the color runs, with the beads on a strand matched for tone. Black gold amazonite is a blue-green with black tourmaline and pyrite grown through it.
Amazonite sizes and cuts — 2mm to 12mm
Amazonite is a feldspar at Mohs 6–6.5 with two directions of cleavage: a soft cloth and mild soap, no ultrasonic cleaners, heat or household chemicals. Rounds run 2mm to 12mm — smooth, faceted, microfaceted, star-cut and matte — with faceted rondelles, coins, heishi, tubes, table-cut cubes, chips, nuggets, pebbles, hearts, points and teardrops, plus large-hole rounds and rondelles on 8-inch strands and pendant pairs and slices at the focal end. Amazonite pairs with carnelian, labradorite, moonstone and aventurine.

Is your amazonite natural, or is it dyed?
Amazonite is a microcline feldspar and is typically untreated: the blue-green and the white veining are the stone's own. The wider bead trade sells dyed howlite, magnesite and calcite as "amazonite"; those are different minerals, and the mineral name on the listing is the thing to check. -
What's the difference between Russian, Brazilian, and Peruvian amazonite?
Origin sets the color. Russian amazonite is the deepest, most saturated blue-teal and the scarcest in current supply; Madagascan material runs similarly blue. Brazilian amazonite is the main source: greener, lighter, often with visible white veining, at accessible prices. Peruvian amazonite is a softer, paler green-blue, often cut into pebbles, chips and free-form shapes. Origin is labelled where known. -
Why does amazonite show white stripes?
The white is albite, a sodium feldspar grown through the potassium feldspar that carries the blue-green. It is a natural feature of the stone, not a flaw or a fill, and most amazonite shows some of it. Cleaner, more saturated strands carry less; veined strands carry it as part of the look. Both are amazonite, and the veining is one of the quickest ways to tell it from dyed imitations. -
Is amazonite the same thing as turquoise?
No. Turquoise is a hydrated copper-aluminum phosphate; amazonite is potassium feldspar. They share a similar color register (soft blue-green) and are sometimes used interchangeably in design palettes, but they are mineralogically unrelated. Amazonite is harder than turquoise (6–6.5 vs 5–6), takes a different polish, and has a calmer matte sheen rather than turquoise's waxy luster. -
Can amazonite fade in sunlight?
Amazonite color is generally stable in normal wear conditions, but prolonged direct sun exposure can lighten saturated material over time. Standard storage (soft pouch, lined compartment, out of sustained direct light) is enough; nothing special is required.
